Another little modify are headlight from Porsche, you can find them at any Bosch dealer for few money. You can install them without any modification and then Beetle's look will be more aggresive.

EMPI EZR REVERSE SHIFTER

Subito dopo l'acquisto del volante Grant, le rotelle si son messe a girare e rigirare alla ricerca di una leva del cambio che ben si abbinasse con l'ultimo acquisto e non meno importante che fosse compatibile con quest'ultimo anche come periodo storico.

Immediately after the steering wheel I start to think which will be the best shifter. I'd like to find a shifter who will match with wood, crome and holes I have on my new Grant and not less important it must be chronologically correct.

Bullitt, con una visione degna del miglior acido lisergico, fa emergere dal catalogo EMPI una leva del cambio oggi poco diffusa ma che all'epoca spesso veniva usata per guarnire l'abitacolo scarno dei Dune Buggies.
My friend Bullit, probably under LSD had a vision, gets from Empi catalog a shifter not so popular and usually used in buggies.

EZR reverse shifter è il suo nome. Si tratta di una leva dall'aspetto semplice, a corsa corta e cromata che con il legno del pomello ed i fori dell'asta rendono ideale la convivenza con il volante Grant all'interno dell'abitacolo.
Empi EZR reverse shifter is its full name. A shifter really very simple, quick and chromed, with a wood knobs and holes like my Grant.

Dopo aver cercato tutti i giorni per circa un mese sul web è saltata fuori, manco a dirlo negli Stati Uniti e più precisamente a Pocatello in Idaho.
After a while, more or less searching everyday for a month on the web, I finally found it in Pocatello [IDAHO] in the USA.

STEERING WHEEL

Un volante sportivo da solo riesce a caratterizzare l'abitacolo di una vettura dandole quel profumo di vittoria come l'odore del napalm al mattino. :-)))
Una corona in legno rivettato, di ridotto diametro, tre razze lucide che offrano quel look a calice classico delle auto sportive di una volta e non ultima l'origine d'oltreoceano.
A sport steering wheel alone is able to characterize the cockpit giving it the scent of victory as the smell of napalm in the morning. :-)))
A wood riveted rim with reduced diameter and three polished spoke will offer the look of a classic sports cars of yesterdays, not least made in USA.

EMPI o GRANT ? entrambi i marchi offrivano prodotti in grado di soddisfare tali requisiti.
La scelta inevitabilmente cade sul secondo grazie ad una foratura tonda delle razze, se vogliamo meno elegante ma decisamente più sportiva.
EMPI or GRANT ? Both brands offer products that meet these requirements. The choice falls on the second one, less elegant but much more sporty.

Next step will be to offer a good company to the Grant with a series of instruments to keep under control the engine, a quick shifter and possibly a set of wooden knobs made by Empi.

WHEELS & TIRES

Come primo passo, per dare il via al cambiamento, cerchi e gomme sono la base .

Nel mio caso ho optato per delle repliche cromate dei cerchi Porsche 356.

Usually wheel and tires are the first step to give the green light to change, so I choose Porsche 356 replica rims.

Canali da 4" e 1/2 all'anteriore e da 5" e 1/2 al posteriore offrono la possibilità di montare misure diverse di pneumatici tra i 2 assi.

Per le gomme, visto che sono ancora in fase di apprendimento, la scelta è caduta su delle Firestone F560 radiali; 155 all'anteriore e 205 al posteriore. Minima spesa e massima resa.

4" 1/2 and 5 1/2 rim's channel will offer the opportunity to mount different sizes of tires between the front and rear axle. I use Firestone F560, 155 for the front and 205 for the rear.

Quando poi il livello generale del dettaglio salirà allora provvederò alla sostituzione con delle gomme tessili .

Altra caratteristica del periodo pre-cal è quello di montare le coppe ruota solo sull'anteriore, nel mio caso sempre delle repliche 356, e pitturare di rosso i tamburi posteriori.

Soon as I can I'll mount textiles tires, for example, Firestone Wide Oval, or Good Year Blue Streak. Another pre-cal's feature is to use only the front hub cups, in my case Porsche 356 cups, and red paint for the rear drums.

Nel '03 quando, per quanto nota, la scena Californiana non rientrava nei miei canoni mi sono messo alla ricerca di un Maggiolino 6Volts che avesse un look "antico" ma che fosse la sua massima evoluzione.

In '03 the Californian look didn't meet my interest; I started to look for a 6Volts Beetle that had a "old" look but that was its greatest development and '64 was the last year with small windows.

L'anno di produzione, il colore, il suo tetto apribile in metallo e non ultime le sue condizioni hanno fatto il resto.
Dopo qualche raduno e comunque una certa insoddisfazione di fondo, mi sono reso conto che questa VW non me la sentivo ancora addosso, un pò come quando ti prestano le ciabatte per fare la doccia.

Production year, color, its metal sun roof and not least its appearence did the rest.
After some bug-meeting and a certain dissatisfaction, I realized that I still haven't the right feeling with this VW, like when someone gives you his rubber slippers to have a shower.

La prima scintilla è scattata quando ho visto per la prima volta SunLike del Manovra [Bollate County], l'incendio è arrivato con l'ovale di Ulcera [Bollate County].
Non era ancora il Sunlike che tutti abbiamo apprezzato sulle Drag strip; verniciatura, lettering e pin striping e quattro cerchi erano le sole cose che lo catapultavano di diritto ad un altro livello ed in quel momento ho capito che andava fatto qualcosa in quella direzione.

The first spark comes when I saw for the first time Manovra's SunLike [Bollate County] and the burning with Ulcera's Oval [Bollate County].
It wasn't yet Sunlike that we all appreciated the drag strip; paint, lettering and pin striping and four rims were the only things that catapulted him to another level and in that moment I realized that something had to be done in that direction.

L'incontro con Bullitt, che all'epoca era uno degli elementi trainanti del Nostalgia Speed Garage, mi ha dapprima coinvolto con la sua grande conoscenza automobilistica e poi con la sua esuberante simpatia mi ha permesso di vedere i contorni degli stilemi del California Look e di iniziare il mio viaggio.

After I met Bullitt , who was one of the charismatics and one of founders of Nostalgia Speed Garage, I was initially involved with his great knowledge about cars and then with his exuberant sympathy; he permit me to see the contours of California look and starting my trip.

INTRO

"Minnie the Moocher" nasce dall'esigenza, dopo tanti anni di VWAC, di avere un progetto che non fosse fine a se stesso, ma che fosse qualcosa che crescesse e che si evolvesse nel tempo insieme a me.

"Minnie the moocher" was born, after many years of VWAC, to have a project that wasn't an end in itself, but to be something that grows and evolves over time along with me.

Una sorta di bisogno di avere una "strada" da percorrere insieme, una destinazione comune da raggiungere lentamente, senza l'assillo di dover arrivare alla meta.

Have a trip together, a common destination to be achieved slowly, without any worry of reaching the goal. This is what I'd have with Minnie.
